Carved Wood Buddha Relief

This unique and intricate two-sided Buddha Relief was skillfully hand-carved by an artist in Bali.  It's made of Suar wood and it has been finished in Teak oil.  The Relief is based on an ancient Burmese fable, "The Great Departure," in which the Buddha first leaves behind his family, home and former life to spread the word of Enlightenment.  Commencing on his "spiritual journey" during the dark of night, his initial followers silently carry the Buddha on horseback out of the village without letting his horse's hooves touch the ground to avoid awakening his family and other villagers as to his secret departure.  This charming piece measures approximately 24 inches in length, by 2.5 inches in width, by 12 inches in height.
